When digital cameras first came out everyone was amazed at what they could do. Not only could you take perfect pictures with almost a touch of a button, but you didn’t have to deal with film anymore either. This actually ended up being a great thing for consumers because they could spend a little more on cameras that worked incredibly well, and they could spend zero dollars on film. These digital cameras took SD cards or micro SD cards – which can be used over and repeatedly! Can’t exactly say that about film can you?
Within the digital camera age, a new type of camera has come out as well – the Nikon Waterproof Digital Camera. These cameras are waterproof, which means you can use the camera minimally in water – say in a rainstorm, or you can use it maximally underwater! This has become really popular with people who go to a scuba diving or do any other water activities. Not only is the Waterproof Digital Camera waterproof, but they also offer other factors as well such as dust proof, shockproof and freeze proof. The last option might seem a little odd. I mean who puts their camera in a freezer. Funny, but not what its intended for. The freeze option is for people in cold areas or people who are skiing or snowboarding, and they accidentally drop their camera in the snow. With a regular camera, it would probably get ruined right away. However, with these kinds of cameras you can actually let it sit in the snow for a few minutes, and it won’t do a thing.
These cameras came in an array of designs and product names as well as features. Yes, just because this is a Nikon Waterproof Digital Camera doesn’t mean you can’t have all the features you want! One of the aspects you have to understand about these cameras is that while they are shockproof, waterproof, and they have all the features you want – they are not usually sink proof.
Meaning if you have a camera in the middle of the ocean, and you are taking pictures of fish and other animals as well as coral reef and you accidentally let go of your camera, it will NOT float! Make sure you keep the wristband on your wrist at all times, even if it does feel a little awkward at first! Furthermore, there are two main types of Nikon Waterproof Digital Camera products available.

An actual digital camera which is 100% waterproof and then there are cases you can put your camera in. If you have the case, you don’t need to worry about other problems like sand and dirt. If you have a regular Nikon Waterproof Digital Camera you do. It’s somewhat of a trade off, I suppose. However, frankly, if I am at the beach, I probably wouldn’t have a Nikon Waterproof Digital Camera. Instead I would have a case for it – the beach, especially in the shallow end (unless you are in really clear water) tends to be murky, so the need for a waterproof camera isn’t really needed. However, as mentioned above, if I am out on a scuba trip or a diving trip, I would want a superb camera with outstanding quality that also lets me see underwater so in this case. I would want to use a waterproof camera to do the job!
One big suggestion I would make to you after you get your waterproof camera is to make sure you always turn the flash off, unless you are in dark waters or a cave. If you have the flash on when you are underwater, and it’s the least bit sunny, your flash is going to bounce off the water, come back and ruin your perfect shot! Usually when underwater, the sun is all the light you need!
